Despite Mikel Arteta’s side often struggling for creativity, the German was not brought back in from the cold. With six months remaining on his contract, he and the club came to a mutual agreement to terminate.

As you expect, one person who did not give Ozil a positive send-off however, was Piers Morgan. A frequent vocal critic of Ozil, Morgan particularly took joy in his departure from the Emirates.

Giving his own unique goodbye on Twitter, the Good Morning Britain host said (via the Express): “Loved @MesutOzil1088 when he first came to Arsenal. World class player with a sublime natural talent. Now I can’t wait to see the back of the lazy manipulative £350,000-a-week wastrel. You could have been a club legend, Mesut – but you just couldn’t be bothered. Bye.”

Predictably, the scathing comments will not go unanswered by Ozil, who took to Twitter to let Morgan know he himself hadn’t forgotten him.

The midfielder tweeted a picture of himself with ‘Poop on Piers’ toilet paper, saying he took it from London to Istanbul to ‘remind him of Morgan.’
