Member Of 1985 Chicago Bears Diagnosed With ALS

The argument can be made that the 1985 Chicago Bears were the greatest football team of all-time. The iconic squad was centered around a dominant defense, and Hall-of-Fame running back Walter Payton. They lost just one game all year, and trounced the Patriots in the Super Bowl 46-10.

Today, some sad news came down about a member of that team. Defensive lineman Steve McMichael has been diagnosed with ALS.

McMichael told members of the Chicago media that he is done making public appearances.

“I’m not going to be out in the public any more…you’re not going to see me out doing appearances, hell I can’t even sign my name any more, and everybody’s going to be speculating ‘Where’s McMichael, what’s wrong with him?” McMichael said to WGN. “I’m here to tell everyone I’ve been diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, so I’m not going to be a public figure any more.”

The 1985 Chicago Bears had a lot of characters, but McMichael may have been the biggest nut. If you remember, he got tossed from a Chicago Cubs game for calling out an umpire during the 7th inning stretch.

Steve McMichael is a huge fan-favorite in Chicago, and I think it’s safe to say that he’ll be receiving many prayers during this difficult time.
