Manny Machado Getting Called Out Over Dirty Slide Against Cardinals’ Tommy Edman

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado has been called out in the past over some questionable antics that have made the All-Star a bit of a villain to MLB fans. On Sunday, Machado gave his critics some more material.

During the Sunday Night Baseball matchup between the Padres and Cardinals, St Louis second baseman Tommy Edman was trying to tag Machado between first and second base. Instead of slowing down and conceding the out (like most players would) Machado slid at the legs of Edman, sending him flying to the dirt.

Fans chimed in on social media to share their thoughts on the Machado take-out slide.

I think the Manny Machado slide would have been much more warranted had he actually have been going into second base. The fact that Machado took out Edman while he was still between first and second made for an awkward and dirty looking play.

In that situation, all Machado had to do was run back towards first base as Edman was trying to tag him, and the Cardinals would have had no chance for the double play.

I’m in for some bad blood in baseball, though. The game could use some more controversial figures such as Manny Machado.
