Mac Jones Plays Dumb When Asked About His ‘Dirty’ Play Against The Panthers

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones is under fire over an incident that occurred during the Panthers game this past weekend.

When Panthers defensive end Brian Burns came in for a strip sack on Jones, the rookie QB was seen grabbing the defender’s ankle as he was trying to run for the ball.

After the play, Brian Burns had to be taken to the medical tent, and was walking with a clear limp.

After being called out for the “dirty” play, Mac Jones said he didn’t really know what was going on during the play.

“I didn’t really know exactly what was going on. I thought he had the ball,” Jones said on WEEI’s Merloni and Fauria on Monday, per Ryan Hannable. “It was my job to try and make the tackle. That’s pretty much it.
I didn’t mean to hurt anybody or anything like that.”

When asked how he felt about the Mac Jones play, Bill Belichick shared his quarterback’s take.

“I think he thought Burns had the ball,” Belichick said.

Mac Jones was not penalized on the play. But the NFL is said to be reviewing the play to see if a punishment is necessary. I’d expect a small fine to be in order.
