The incident between Hamilton and Verstappen occurred in turn 1 when Hamilton tried to cut to the inside of the turn when their wheels collided and sent Verstappen hurling in to the wall. The race was red-flagged as they needed to fix the barrier, and Verstappen walked away and was medically cleared later on. You can watch the whole incident below.
Red Bull’s team principal Christian Horner was open about his thoughts and commented on the situation that occurred saying that “The move was never on.” In which the is referring to the move that Hamilton pulled in turn 1. Red Bull and Mercedes are battling it out at the top of the standings.
After the incident during the red flag Hamilton did ask how Verstappen was and if he got out of his car ok.
Following the race, Hamilton was the subject of many racial slurs for his actions. The Mercedes F1 team posted a response to their Instagram page yesterday highlighting what was happening.
One may suspect that many of the comments came from fans of the Red Bull racing team. Their team also posted on Instagram condemning that sort of behavior.
Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes team has been criticized for their on-track antics over the years, but there is no room for racism in life, let alone sport.
Hamilton has been a staple in F1 promoting the BLM campaign among other important movements. He even created The Hamilton Commission which looked at improving diversity within UK Motorsport.
Max Verstappen currently leads the Drivers Championship with 185 points, while Lewis Hamilton sits in second place with 177 points. The Red Bull team also currently leads the Constructors with 289 points while Mercedes sits at 285 points.
F1 will be off this week as the teams head to Hungary for the Hungarian GP which will run on Sunday August 1st.
