Kyle Schwarber Posts ‘Thank You’ Message To Cubs Fans After Being Non-Tendered

It appears the Kyle Schwarber era in Chicago is over. Chicago Cubs new president of baseball ops Jed Hoyer made the announcement yesterday that the team will not be tendering a contract to the slugging left fielder. Schwarber, while never really living up to his full potential, was a fan favorite in Chicago. He famously came back from a torn ACL to deliver a memorable World Series performance for the Cubs in 2016. Without his heroics, they simply do not win the World Series.

Today, Schwarber sent out a message to the Cubs, and their fans.

“Chicago…From being drafted, to playoffs 5 out of 6 years, to being a World Series Champion! I want to thank all the fans for the overwhelming support these past 7 years of being in the organization. It never got old running out to left field and being able to give you guys a salute. It really is different at Wrigley. It was an absolute pleasure to go out there everyday and grind with the fellas for you guys and I’m forever grateful for my teammates, coaches, staff and the fans. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart! Until we meet again,” Schwarber wrote on his Twitter.

This move is one of many that will signal a change in mindset for the Cubs. It appears that they will move forward with the rebuilding of their roster. The competitive window is likely over on the north side of Chicago.

As for Schwarber, he’ll have a market. As I said before, he still hasn’t reached his full potential in the MLB, but he has a ton of value. Schwarber has shown an ability to get on base despite hitting for a low average, an increased defensive ability, and can obviously hit a baseball a long, long way.

Schwarber will leave the Cubs tied for the franchise record for most postseason home runs. He’ll also leave Cubs fans with a lot of other fond memories throughout his tenure in Chicago. Schwarber will forever be a Chicago Cubs legend.

Best of luck to Kyle Schwarber, wherever he lands.
