Kevin Cash Stands By His Decision To Pull Blake Snell In The World Series

Kevin Cash won the AL manager of the year yesterday. I’ll accept that, he earned it. Cash has done a great job with the Tampa Bay Rays. However, his decision to pull Blake Snell in Game 6 of the World Series was one of the worst managerial decisions I have ever seen. What’s worse? He stands by it.

Here’s what he said on Sportscenter last night.

“I would make the same decision again,” Cash said via Bro Bible. “Just hope for a much better outcome. And that’s being so respectful of everybody’s opinion that’s out there. But that’s what we do. We pride ourselves on getting the most favorable matchups possible, and in that moment thought that was the best matchup. They don’t always work, and certainly that one didn’t, but I think we have to stick to our thoughts, the information that is provided, and do what is best to help the team win.”

This comment has been on par with how Kevin Cash has handled the backlash ever since losing the World Series. The man simply won’t accept blame. Here’s what he said to The Athletic after the game.

“I accept (what happened),” said Cash. “I would do it the same way all over again. I’d plead for a different outcome, that’s for sure. That decision was not reflective of my confidence in Blake. It was very reflective of my confidence in Nick. I thought our best chance to win the game was get the ball in Nick’s hands and line up our bullpen. … There is nothing simple about any of these decisions. We have talked in countless conversations of what we think is the best decision to help us win games on a nightly basis. There’s many things that (go) into those decisions.”

Up 1-0 in Game 6 of the World Series, Kevin Cash opted to pull Blake Snell in the sixth inning. Snell had only given up two hits, and only threw 73 pitches. Cash brought in reliever Nick Anderson, who immediately gave up a double, and allowed a run on a wild pitch. Tampa would go on to lose 3-1, and the celebration in Los Angeles ensued. It was Kevin Cash’s decision that changed all the momentum, and may have swung the World Series. If i’m a Tampa bay Rays fan, I’m pissed that this guy won’t accept blame for the boneheaded decision.
