Johnny Manziel Proves He’s As Skilled A Cliff Diver As He Is An NFL QB As He Nearly Breaks His Neck On Video

When the pro football paychecks have stopped coming but that cliff dive insurance money hits:

It’s hard to not mock Johnny Manziel for this one as he made it out unscathed enough to post the video on Instagram despite that nearly catastrophic fall. As many foolish travelers have learned when visiting cliff diving tourist traps, they’re oft lightly insured and haphazardly handled. There are a ton of injuries that occur for cliff divers even when they’re properly managed.

So in a lot of ways, cliff diving is a microcosm of the Johnny Football NFL experience. There’s always an air of danger with cliff diving and, much like at Texas A&M, sometimes you’re lucky enough to have things go right. And Johnny’s plunge off the cliff in this video is like his Browns and CFL stints. You climb to the top of the cliff with great enthusiasm. You go in with high hopes for a beautiful cannonball or plunge. But gravity and inertia makes the journey downwards nothing but ugliness with a high likelihood of outright catastrophe.

And perhaps also similar to his NFL career, there’s at least a slight chance that Johnny Football was so yakked up during this video that he was incapable of feeling pain anyway. So there’s that parallel too.

I’ll admit I’m not unbiased here as I’m one of those people who had high hopes for Johnny Manziel’s career. I loved his throwback gunslinger and party boy vibes despite his lack of size and some accuracy issues. Part of me even hopes he has some late career renaissance after he rebrands himself as “John Manziel,” though the XFL folding probably takes that one off the table.

Either way, I’m glad to see Johnny didn’t end up like this vintage Simpsons clip below. The ambulance is really what makes it sing:
