JJ Watt Recounts Hilarious Philip Rivers Story In Light Of His Retirement News

Seventeen seasons later and number 17, Philip Rivers, has finally decided to call it quits. Rivers, who spent this past season with the Indianapolis Colts after 16 years with the Los Angeles Chargers, made his retirement announcement on Wednesday. Not long after the announcement, JJ Watt took to Twitter to recount a hilarious story about Philip Rivers on the field. And it’s a classic Rivers move.

“One of the smartest I’ve ever played and a hell of a competitor”, JJ Watt wrote.

If the story isn’t funny enough by itself, JJ Watt added his own little touch. He later commented on the post changing “hell of a competitor” to *heckuva. You know, because Philip Rivers never curses.

Philip Rivers truly is one of the smartest and most well-prepared quarterbacks the game has ever seen. Despite never being able to win the big game, Rivers said “it’s just time” for him to retire. Rivers leaves the league with an overall record of 134-106. His accomplishments sometimes get lost between some of the all-time greats that have played in his era: Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Manning. Nevertheless, there is no doubt in my mind that Philip Rivers will one day become a hall of famer.

Philip Rivers leaves the Colts with a hole in the quarterback department. It will be interesting to see how they replace him with the nature of this win now league.

Good luck in your future endeavors Philip Rivers. You will be missed.
