Longtime Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones scoffs at rumors that head coach Mike McCarthy will be let go of after his disastrous first season.
“How in the hell something like that could get going with a conversation … is ridiculous,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “Not one time have I been in any discussion, had any dream, been sitting by myself, have I given a thought to anything but Mike McCarthy being our coach next year and being our coach in the future.”

Jerry Jones hired Mike McCarthy this past offseason after McCarthy took a year off from coaching. He previously coached the Green Bay Packers for 13 seasons, winning the Super Bowl in 2010. After authoring eight 10-win seasons over his first 11 years in Green Bay, he went 11-16-1 in his final two years before being replaced by Matt LeFeur.

Jerry Jones’ Cowboys are currently 4-9, last in the NFC East, a division currently led by a six-win Washington team.
“I’ve been known to stick with these guys in early, troubled times on coaching,” Jerry Jones continued. “We all understand that continuity is sticking with plan and having a long-term plan to put your team together around a particular coach, his style and his ability to put a winning team on the field. He won’t do it the same way he did it in Green Bay. But the facts are does he have the background, does he have the experience, does he have the skill set, does he have the ability to motivate, does he have the knowledge? The answer’s ‘yes,’ and that’s why we hired him.”
Jerry Jones is referencing his hire of head coach Jimmy Johnson during his first year as owner of the Cowboys. Jimmy Johnson went 1-15 his first season before leading a Dallas dynasty and winning two Super Bowls.
The Dallas Cowboys have not been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs yet as they take on the 5-8 San Francisco 49ers Sunday, Dec. 20. Jerry Jones hasn’t given up on the season or his head coach.
