ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas usually has his finger all over the pulse of college basketball. While he may not always be right, theres a lot of stake in his opinions on a yearly basis. This week, Bilas gave out his top ten best teams as it stands right now.

Team #1 and #2 should really come as no surprise to anyone. Gonzaga and Baylor are the only remaining unbeaten teams in college basketball, and they’ll be favorites against any team they face (as long as they’re not playing each other).
Bilas has some interesting selections from there. Ohio State jumps into the #3 spot. In a competitive Big Ten conference, nobody has really distance themselves as the “best” team in the conference. However, they are the most sound division in college bball as it stands right now. Ohio State is coming off a five straight wins, so they’ll lead the pack in Jay Bilas’s rankings.
Villanova was once considered a threat, but after losing unexpectedly to St. Johns, many are wondering if they’re legit or not. They have dealt with some COVID issues, and still have time to get hot before March Madness. I wouldn’t bet against Jay Wright.
Rounding out Bilas’s top five is Illinois. The Illini hit a snag earlier in the year, but have recovered admirably. Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn are going to be a matchup problem no matter who they play. Brad Underwood’s team is a threat in March.

Michigan, Houston, Iowa, Alabama and Texas Tech round out the top five. It’s an interesting year in college basketball, and Jay Bilas’s rankings reflect that. Who would think that none of Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky or Michigan State would be a top 10 contender. But that’s where we’re at this year.
The final four will be open for the taking, and I’d expect a wild March Madness.
