Things in New York are getting a little confusing. Fans booing is an aged old tradition that probably won’t go away anytime, some don’t like the negativity though. That’s exactly what Javier Baez tried to preach on Sunday night when the New York Mets took on the Washington Nations at Citi Field. The Mets second baseman smashed a two-run homer and celebrated the way you probably wouldn’t have expected.
As Baez crossed the home plate, he gave a “thumbs down” motion with both hands to the crowd as he headed towards the dugout.

Baez explained the celebration:
Javy Báez said the Mets' new thumbs down celebration is a response to fans booing the team.
"We're not machines, we're going to struggle. … It just feels bad when I strikeout and I get booed. … We're going to do the same thing to let them know how it feels," he said. pic.twitter.com/CYkHVpE2KH

The Mets second baseman has had enough with the team’s fanbase booing him. Following the Mets win, Baez released a statement on the gesture to the media.
"They've got to be better," Javier Báez said of the Mets' fan base.

If you don’t want to be booed, play better. You get paid a lot of money to play a game, deal with it.
