Hit and Run Kicker? New York Giants’ Aldrick Rosas Arrested in 100mph Drunk Driving Crash

Discipline problems are starting to pile up for the NFL’s once-noble New York Giants. The team’s erratic kicker Aldrick Rosas was arrested in California on hit-and-run and driving while suspended charges on Monday, with police expecting to add drunk driving charges following further investigation. The still-developing story was first reported by TMZ early Tuesday afternoon.

Aldrick Rosas was allegedly driving at over 100 miles per hour when he blew through a red light and smashed into the side of a passing pickup truck early on Monday. According to the statement TMZ got from police on the scene, Rosas plowed through the pickup and kept driving. The former Pro Bowl kicker’s black Chevy SUV broke down shortly after from the damage it sustained, and Rosas was then witnessed getting out of the car covered in blood and running from the scene.

Police would find Rosas wandering near the scene on foot a short time later. The TMZ report claims that police said his “hands, legs, and bare feet were still covered in blood” at the time of his arrest. The Giants issued a statement, saying only “We are aware of the situation and have been in contact with Aldrick. We have no further comment at this time.” Rosas has not yet responded to requests for comment either directly or via representation.

In his three seasons as the Giants’ kicker, Aldrick Rosas has made 62 of 75 tries, reaching the Pro Bowl in 2018 while going 31-32, but he fell off badly in 2019 going only 12-17. The kicker is on a one-year $3.2 million dollar deal, and might want to think about updating his resume. He’ll probably have the time.

This is the second Giants player to run afoul of the law in serious ways this off-season. Cornerback DeAndre Baker was implicated in an armed robbery incident earlier this spring.

This has to be driving Giants’ ownership bananas, the team has long prided itself on being a model of discipline and… who are we kidding? We had Lawrence Taylor on the field coked out of his gourd making absurd plays all over the place. The model citizens thing is and always has been a joke, it’s just a football team.
