Former MNF Sideline Reporter Lisa Guerrero Reveals That She Contemplated Suicide After Getting Fired

Lisa Guerrero has had an interesting career in media. After starting as a cheerleader, Guerrero made her way to the “Monday Night Football” team in 2003 as a sideline reporter. However, he stay was short. Guerrero was cut after just one year on the job.

While speaking with The New York Post, Lisa Guerrero opened up about the toll it took on her when she was let go from MNF. Here’s an excerpt from the article

One day, months after her firing, she drove on the Pacific Coast Highway. Out of old habit, she mistakenly flipped on sports radio.

The hosts cackled, reading a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette column that ransacked her name, focusing on her looks and calling her “MNF”’s “biggest liability ever.” She pulled over.

“I considered killing myself,” Guerrero told The Post

Lisa Guerrero would also talk about what she felt went wrong during her short stint with “Monday Night Football. She said she was terrified of producer Fred Gaudelli.

“I was terrified,” Guerrero said. “People at home probably looked at it as, ‘She’s scared of the job. She’s intimidated by “Monday Night Football.”’ I wasn’t afraid of the job. I was afraid of [Gaudelli]. I was afraid of him screaming at me after every game and during the game. I cried every game. It was awful.”

I think the Lisa Guerrero story just goes to show how we take sports too seriously sometimes. While it’s fun to take to social media to troll players and members of the media for poor performance, it is important to recognize them as people, as well. Guerrero was a young reporter just trying to make it in a competitive field. What does she get for it? Hate, backlash, and a one-way ticket back to unemployment.

Luckily, Lisa Guerrero now works as an investigative journalist and appears to have her life back on track. Kudos to her for sharing her story.
