Former Mets Manager Bobby Valentine Running For Mayor in Stamford

Former Major League Baseball manager Bobby Valentine is trying his hand at politics, announcing today that he’s running for mayor of his Connecticut hometown. Valentine currently serves as the athletic director at Sacred Heart University, posted a video on social media and said he’ll run as an independent candidate in Stamford.

“With great humility and perspective from a lifetime of service, I’m asking for your support to be the next Mayor of Stamford – the city I’m proud to have always called my home. ​ Stamford’s future is too important for us to keep doing the same kind of things. Our city needs to embrace change in this unprecedented time. ​ My experience turning around troubled organizations in challenging periods has taught me that a crisis calls for a leader who knows how to adapt on a moment’s notice. ​ I’m proud to be driven by empathy and passion – we all win when we are committed to increased access to a high quality life for all.”

Bobby Valentine was the Texas Rangers manager in 1985 and also managed the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox in addition to spending time in Japan.

He won a Japan Series title in 2005 with the Chiba Lotte Marines.

Bobby once got kicked out of a game, and put on a fake mustache to hide out in the dugout.
