Florida Wants To Host 2021 Olympics If Tokyo Backs Out

Like a good neighbor, Florida is there.

Pandemic what? Florida has been open throughout the whole thing. You want them to host an Olympics? Sure, why not? Come on down.

Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s chief financial officer laid out a plan in a letter to the International Olympic Committee  On Monday with the hopes of hosting the Summer Olympics amid Japan’s hesitation to have the games played in their country.

“Today, I am writing to encourage you to consider relocating the 2021 Olympics from Tokyo, Japan to the United States of America, and more specifically to Florida,” he wrote.

In the letter, Patronis praised the way Florida has been able to keep their economy open for the duration of the pandemic. He also praised Gov. Ron Desantis for his leadership, and vowed that Florida was rolling out the vaccine as quick as possible.

“Unlike other states, when the COVID-19 vaccine comes to Florida it doesn’t just sit on the shelf wrapped in government red tape; it moves fast to protect our communities,” Patronis said.

It seems like Florida it really serious about this whole thing, without having a full-on plan in place.

“Whatever precautions are required let’s figure it out and get it done,” Patronis said.

‘Lets figure it out’ are words that I don’t trust, especially coming from Florida of all states. How about let’s not. Having the olympics held in Florida during a global pandemic with minimal precautions in place sounds like a disaster.

Thankfully, I’m fairly confident that the IOC won’t take this bid too seriously.
