Fans Throw Tortillas at High School Basketball Team

It looks like fans at every level are behaving badly. A hoops team in San Diego had tortillas thrown their way by the opposing crowd at a Championship game this past weekend. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Coronado school district leaders apologized Sunday to Orange Glen High after tortillas were hurled at the school’s boys basketball team during an altercation in the aftermath of a championship game Saturday night.

This marks the 3rd incident condemned as racist in San Diego County high school sports in recent years. For Coronado, the incident comes as its school district — which serves predominately White students — examines how to root out racism in its schools.https://t.co/UHRmjKuT5c

Coronado police said they would be investigating the incident.

Assembly member Lorena Gonzalez weighed in on Twitter.

Bottom line: Coronado High School should be sanctioned by CIF or stripped of their championship. We should have universal condemnation of this activity. Parents in SD County know that racist taunts against latino athletes are too commonplace. It’s time to stop it.

Only silver lining to take away from this is Tortillas are probably not going to harm anyone.

Racist as can be, but nothing that will cause bodily harm.
