I’m guessing/hoping they offered him the chance to gracefully retire before being released. Which, means pujols still wants to play. Any team gonna take a flier? https://t.co/scU49Xz2BM

Thinking a lot about this moment right now.

watching how the last few years of Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols's careers have played out makes me really appreciate the storybook way David Ortiz was able to end his https://t.co/XXYaqy8q4h

Albert Pujols has me thinking again about David Wright. It's just so rare that a player gets to author the end of his career, even in a small way. Far more often, it happens like this: unceremoniously, amidst on-field struggle, unreflective of the great career that came before.

While Albert Pujols had some solid years with the Angels, he will be remembered as a St. Louis Cardinal. During his time in St. Louis, Pujols was the best hitter in the game of baseball, and was competing against a league of guys who were taking PEDs.
Pujols gave the game of baseball everything he had, but just might not have very much left in the tank. It’s too bad to see a guy of Pujols’ caliber go out like this, but that’s the way these things have to go sometimes.
Who knows? Maybe some team gives Albert Pujols a chance to finish out the year. Maybe he has just a little bit left to give before he announces his retirement, and makes his way to Cooperstown.
