Did One Fan’s Instagram Post Destroy Jets – Jamal Adams Relationship?

Watch what you say on social media, you may end up accidentally becoming an unwitting co-General Manager of your favorite team, as one Jets fan found out after his post about star safety Jamal Adams. If you’re unfamiliar, the disgruntled team leader has been haranguing the Jets via social media on and off, trying to push the team for a new contract. Abrahams, a lifelong Jets fan, took to Instagram to yell his feelings into the void, never expecting to get a reply, let alone potentially blow the whole issue up.

Of course, through some miracle of the internet, among the many thousands of replies, Adams managed to spot the response from Abrahams and decided to respond, venting some of his own frustrations along the way.

The stunned fan told the NY Post “Who would have even expected a reply? I saw that little red dot replying to me and I clicked it and all of a sudden I was like ‘Is this actually from Jamal Adams? This is him responding to me?’ I was in shock.” Abrahams, the fan, went on to explain that he is a life-long Jets fan who badly wants to see the team keep the star defender.

The fan clarified his position to the newspaper as well, saying “I’m not just a ‘me’ kind of guy, that’s just my thing. There’s always a way to handle things in-house. I mentioned Mahomes meaning you are talking about the NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP and I don’t hear him complaining about the Kansas City Chiefs or making it public in the media that he hasn’t received a contract yet.”

Naturally, everyone seized on the “Maybe it’s time to move on!” at the end of the Jamal Adams Instagram response. Adams has made several comments during the offseason, most recently saying the Jets were “all talk, no action” just last week, once again in a reply on Instagram.

By mid-afternoon the situation had completely devolved, with Adams’ representation officially demanding a trade:

The Jets lack the motivation to extend Adams, preferring that he play out his fifth-year option, and maintaining two full years of team control. The team has not given Adams and his agent permission to speak to other teams, and have no intent to trade him, viewing the safety as part of the future and a critical team leader. General Manager Joe Douglas has refused comment since yesterday’s trade demand, but is on record with the NY Post as saying he wants Adams to be a “Jet for life.”

That they were shopping the “Jet for life” at last year’s trade deadline — reportedly asking for a first-round pick and two second-rounders — seems to have fallen out of the collective memory of Jets management. Adams was upset by the team shopping him, expecting to be considered untouchable. With several other members of his 2017 draft class receiving extensions or deep in negotiations, Adams feels the Jets have not shown him the proper respect.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported a list of seven teams that Adams’ representation provided to the club.

“I’ve been a Jets fan my entire life and I’ve never had this much control of the organization, it’s crazy” said Abrahams, who has been the target of some wildly unfair anger from fellow Jets fans for what they perceive to be him attempting to oust Jamal Adams.

Abrahams would like fellow fans to know that “If me making a comment like that to Jamal Adams is the reason he wants to be traded is ridiculous. If anyone believes that’s actually the reason they’ve got some serious problems. He’d leave in a second. He can request a trade, be out of here, never wear green again and burn his stuff — and I don’t think he’d really care, to be honest with you.” Which is a bit on the nose for someone who Jamal Adams clearly knows how to find if he wants to have a word.

Abrahams captured the feelings of several generations of Jets fans in his final lamentation to the Post, telling the tabloid: “I’ve spent my entire life rooting for the Jets and I’ve loved so many players through thick and thin with them. I can’t get traded the next day.” Poor bastard.
