Despite Negative Tests, The Last Minute Houston-Baylor Game Has Been Postponed

The Houston-Baylor football game that was scheduled just last week has been canceled due to Baylor players not being available to play. Houston was supposed to play Memphis this weekend and Baylor was supposed to play Louisiana Tech last weekend, after those games got postponed due to the other teams having breakouts, they were going to play a game against each other. Reports are saying that Baylor players have not been testing positive, but a whole position group was exposed and even after testing negative 5x, must sit out due to contact tracing rules.

The precautions are there for a reason, athlete safety. I think as the season moves along and they see how the testing rules are going, they should be able to make some adjustments. For example, right now they can’t test a player after a positive Covid test, which can be problematic with how many false positives the tests yield.

Houston and Baylor have each now had two games postponed or canceled, possibly leaving them in limbo about what might happen if they were to be in consideration for the playoffs later in the season. Hopefully there were some guidelines put into place or a plan to build a couple extra weeks into the schedule on the backend for makeup games. I doubt there were considering dates are all pretty locked in, but how could they not have taken that into consideration, especially after watching this happen with MLB? Obviously I feel for the players but everyone is just trying to do their best and make sure they stay safe, not sure what else they can do at this point. Baylor will now open conference play on September 26th with Kansas and Houston will play North Texas.

Maybe Houston is just going to be so good that nobody wants to play them. All eyes on that North Texas game now to find out.
