Deandre Hopkins Reacts To Bill O’Brien’s Firing

You would think Deandre Hopkins would be celebrating Bill O’Brien’s finally getting canned, right? After all, O’Brien inexplicably traded the star receiver instead of giving him top receiver money he’s earned.

Well, sorry to disappoint, but Hopkins wasn’t in the mood for rejoicing after Bill O’Brien’s job was taken from him.

Way to be the bigger man Deandre.

Here’s the statement from team Chairman and CEO Carl McNair regarding Bill O’Brien being let go.

It seems as if everyone involved in this situation has opted to take the high road and move on. I guess it is worth noting that even while the recent track record has looked awful for O’Brien, he did do some good things for the Houston Texans organization.

Under O’Brien, the Texans were a mediocre 52-48, but made the playoffs four times. They also won the AFC South four time (2015,2016,2018,2019). O’Brien simply just could never get the team over the hump to where they were a legitimate contender. His ineptitude was on full display when he took over GM duties, though. Trading Deandre Hopkins and a 4th round pick for David Johnson and a second rounder is one of the most lopsided trades I’ve seen in a long time.

Nevertheless, the Texans organization had more of a thankful tone after letting their longtime head coach go after this year’s 0-4 start to the season.

It’ll be interesting to see what ends up happening with Bill O’Brien. I doubt he’ll get another head coaching job anytime soon. Maybe someday he can work his way back. It’ll also be interesting to see what direction the Texans decide to go in. They have their franchise quarterback in Deshaun Watson, but many question marks remain on that roster. Hopefully the Deandre Hopkins trade doesn’t haunt them forever.
