Chilean Basketball Player Lands In The NFL

Sammis Reyes went to Tulane to play basketball. After graduating, him and his family (who come from Chile) had an epiphany…he should be a football player.

So, at the age of 23-years old, Sammis Reyes began training for the NFL.

“So when I was 23, my current agent, my family and my close friends, they were like ‘You’ve got to give this football thing a shot,” Reyes said to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “You’re fast, you’re strong, you’re powerful.’ So my friends, my best friends, and everybody around me convinced me to give it a shot.”

Two years later, and that shot paid off. At 25-years of age Reyes was training for a spot in the 2021 International Player Pathway Program– which grants players from all different countries the chance to at least play on an NFL team’s practice squad for a year.

However, Reyes didn’t need it. After being invited to the Florida Gators’ Pro Day, The Washington Football Team has offered Sammis Reyes a contract.

Reyes will still have an uphill battle ahead of him if he wants to see significant playing time in the NFL, but much crazier things have happened.

Sammis Reyes is clearly a different breed, and he’s willing to work as hard as it takes to achieve his dream of playing professional sports. Don’t bet against this guy.
