Bryson DeChambeau Continued To Receive “Brooksy” Taunts During Weekend Collapse At WGC-St. Jude Invitational

The vast majority of PGA fans remains fully on team Brooks Koepka over well-known rival Bryson DeChambeau.

Over the weekend, DeChambeau found himself in position to win the WGC-St. Jude Invitational, but a disastrous end to his final round resulted in him having to take a back seat to Abraham Ancer.

But while DeChambeau was gunning for the trophy, he had to deal with a familiar obstacle. Fans in the gallery continued to rain down on him with “Brooksy” taunts throughout the tournament.

Bryson DeChambeau didn’t have much to say about the constant taunts throughout the tournament. But his playing partner on Sunday, Harris English, thinks that the bully tactics have gone a little overboard, and he claims that the whole situation was clearly affecting Bryson’s game.

“It’s not real fair for them to call him ‘Brooksy’ a lot,” English said via Golf.Com. “It kind of sucks, and obviously he hears it, and it affects him a little bit. He doesn’t like it, and I think that causes them to do it more.”

Bryson DeChambeau is really stuck in a lose-lose situation. if he says something or acts on the ‘Brooksy’ taunts, it’s a big story. And if he doesn’t, it’ll likely continue every tournament he plays in.

“It just sucks that that’s out here right now, that they’re trying to irk people like that,” English continued. “It’s just unfortunate.”

It’s kind of hard to pity Bryson DeChambeau too much. After all, he has kind of brought this on himself. He recently had an issue with not yelling “fore” after errant tee shots, he had some unusual things to say about not receiving the COVID vaccine, and he had the infamous “my driver sucks” comment following a poor round.

But with all things considered, I do kind of feel for the guy. He’s so widely disliked by most golf fans that it’s clearly taking away from his joy of the game and overall performance.

Perhaps it’s time for Bryson DeChambeau to just own the “villain” label.
