Brett Favre Back At It Again Bashing ‘Woke’ Athletes

Former NFL star Quarterback Brett Favre is back at it again. This time he’s commenting on Tennis star Naomi Osaka. Osaka, the world’s highest paid female athlete, who recently withdrew from the French Open, came under fire for her stance on the media. The tennis superstar planned on playing in the tournament, although she wanted no part of her media obligations. Osaka said that due to her mental health, it was best for her to skip the media part of her job.

“I’ve often felt that people have no regard for athletes mental health and this rings very true whenever I see a press conference or partake in one,” Osaka wrote on Twitter. “We’re often sat there and asked questions that we’ve been asked multiple times before or asked questions that bring doubt into our minds and I’m just not going to subject myself to people that doubt me.”

Favre has been pretty chatty as of late.

Now once again Favre is weighing in on another athlete’s situation.  In Favre’s opinion, if you’re a professional athlete, you should speak to the media or get fined for not doing so.

“We should talk to the media. I’m not saying you have to; you chose to be fined or not,” Favre said this week on his Bolling with Favre podcast, adding, “I do think athletes are held to a different level and a different standard, and rightfully so, because of the money we make.”

Favre then brought up a time when he chose to not speak to the media back in 1998 after taking an L:

“They said, ‘You’ve got to do it,’ and I said, ‘I’m not doing it,’” Favre recalled, then expressed regret.

“I should have done the press conference and just owned up. It was one of those things where I said, ‘If I don’t have anything good to say, I’m not saying anything at all’ – well, go in there and say that!”

Favre said he was fined $25,000 for not talking to the press.

“At the time, there was nothing written into the quote-unquote rule book for media,” said Favre. “In other words, I was not required. There wasn’t anything that if I chose not to speak I would be fined, so I chose not to speak and was fined $25,000, and then that was written into the rule book after that.”

So on one hand Favre is saying you should talk to the media, yet he himself decided not to.

Favre really talks out of both sides of his mouth.

Can’t wait to see who he comments on next. . .
