Andrew McCutchen Blasts MLB For Reneging In Hilarious Parody Video

Players have been expressing their frustrations with the negotiations regarding the 2020 MLB season for months and now Phillies Outfielder Andrew McCutchen has put it in perspective with a parody video.

I think McCutchen summed up the feelings of many MLB players with this one. Remember making a simple request as a child and your dad’s only reason for saying no was “because I said so”? That’s pretty much what is going on between the league and players organization, who still haven’t been able to reach an agreement. Just about four weeks away from when the All-Star break would have been, it is starting to seem pretty unlikely that both sides will be able to reach an agreement for the 2020 MLB season. Even if commissioner Rob Manfred was able to execute a plan for a shortened season, many players supposedly still plan to sit out.

The newest proposal from the MLB reportedly includes several things that should be enticing to the players union: expanded playoffs, opt-outs with pay, a month-long expansion of active rosters to 29 players, and the elimination of draft-pick compensation linked to free agency. The deterrent is that it calls for a reduction of the prorated salaries that the players agreed upon back in March. This remains to be the main factor keeping the negotiation at a standstill.  To sum it up, the best offer from the league thus far is calling for a 56% reduction of the season and as much as a 65% salary reduction.

At this point, I’m not very bullish about the 2020 MLB season. Having said that, even if there is no season it may not necessarily be an end-all for McCutchen. While he may not be going to LA for the All-Star game this year, McCutchen aka “Uncle Larry” might be able to find a job there in a different industry.
