Jayson Tatum Admits He Has Questioned Himself As Celtics’ Leader

Jayson Tatum is growing up right before our eyes on the brightest stage this postseason. But even he didn’t always believe he could be this type of player.

When speaking to reporters prior to the NBA Finals, Tatum had an honest admission that he wasn’t always sure he could be the leader the Celtics needed to get to this point.

“I’ll be honest, for myself, there have been times where I questioned, am I the right person to kind of lead a group like this,” Tatum said on Wednesday via NBC Sports. “Never like doubted myself, but just moments after some of those losses and the tougher parts of the season.

“That’s human nature to kind of question yourself and things like that. But just always stick to what you believe in and trust in the work that you’ve put in. It can’t rain forever.”

Jayson Tatum took plenty of criticism from the talking heads over the quote. After all, it’s hard to imagine guys like Kobe, MJ, or even LeBron ever doubted themselves or their ability to be the best. But honestly, I took the admission as a breath of fresh air.

In the past, Tatum and the Celtics have faltered down the stretch, and it makes Tatum a better leader to be able to look in the mirror to see what he could have done better.

Now, Jayson Tatum has been able to dominate throughout the NBA Playoffs. And he has one more series to go before he’s a legend in Boston forever.
