Charles Barkley’s Comments On Darvin Ham’s Age Go Viral

While many are excited to see what new head coach Darvin Ham has in store for the Lakers, Charles Barkley isn’t impressed.

When speaking freely on the hire, Sir Charles said he’s excited to see ham get the opportunity, but it’s not going to matter. Specifically, Barkley thinks it’s a red flag that Ham is younger than some of his Lakers players.

“Well I’m glad Darvin got an opportunity ’cause he’s paid his dues,” Barkley said on the Dan Patrick Show (h/t Sam Leweck of Lakers Daily). “He’s a nice guy. We’ll have to see what kind of coach he is. But listen, if one of your coaches is close to the same age as your players, your team not gonna be any good anyway. The Lakers, they got a serious dilemma on their hands. Their best player’s gonna be 40. Anthony Davis has never been healthy. Obviously, [Russell Westbrook] is gonna be there one more year, so what’s really bad about the situation — next year is gonna be the same as this year. And then LeBron just gonna be a year older, and then they’ll have Russ off the books.”

In Charles Barkley’s defense, Darvin Ham will still have the mess of the “Big 3” that is LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook.

The Lakers seem handcuffed by their current salary cap issues, and their current roster is proven not to work.

Maybe Darvin Ham will find a way to get this Lakers team to click together. But I’m with Charles Barkley on this one, that feels like an incredible long shot.
