St. Louis Cardinals Slugger Albert Pujols Odds To Hit Home Run Monday As He Chases No. 700

Can Albert Pujols get to the historic home run mark?

The St. Louis Cardinals legend will be chasing baseball history in the final weeks of his legendary career, and he’s got some work cut out for him, as he’s still not at the mark of 700. The two-time World Series champion has been of baseball’s best hitters in the 21st century and he plans to retire after the 2022 season.

While he’s reached countless milestones, there are two more homerun milestones within reach: Fourth all-time in home runs and the 700-home run club. Pujols spoke about the 700 milestone.

“I just try to do my thing,” Pujols told FOX2 in May on the potential 700-home run milestone. “I just let things happen. My job pretty much is to try to get ready to play every day and focus to help our ball club to win every night however I can. At the end of the day, if it happens, it happens, but it’s something that I don’t even think about.”

Now that he’s inching closer, Pujols says he’s not focusing on the numbers.

“I’m still going to retire, no matter whether I end up hitting 693, 696, 700, whatever,’’ Pujols said, via USA Today. “I don’t get caught up in numbers. If you were going to tell me 22 years ago that I would be this close, I would have told you that you’re freakin’ crazy. My career has been amazing.’’

Pujols is only five home runs short of passing Alex Rodriguez (696) for fourth all time on the career list and eight home runs short of reaching 700 for his career, with only 40 Cardinals games remaining this season. Tonight the Cards play the Cubs at Wrigley Field, and of course you can bet on if Pujols will hit a home run against the Cardinals rivals.

Albert Pujols was hitting .189 on July 4th. Since that time, the Cardinals slugger has hit .408 with nine home runs.

In a 28-game stretch through Sunday, he hit .408 with a .459 on-base percentage and .829 slugging percentage.

You better strike while the iron’s hot.
