College Football Bettor Puts Absurd Amount Of Money On Utah To Win Championship This Season

With college football season set to begin, bettors are starting to get their last futures in. And with the usual suspects (Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State) coming in as the favorites to win the championship, many are look for potential sleeper options.

Perhaps one bettor took his sleeper pick too far in the Utah Utes.

On Wednesday, DraftKings revealed that one bettor put a whopping $5,000 on the Utes to win the College Football Championship. The bet would pay out $305,000.

Per VSIN’s Ben Fawkes, Utah opened the season as 60-1 odds to win the championship. But after some money has come in on them, they now sit at 50-1.

When speaking on the high expectations centered around his program, Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham didn’t shy away from expectations.

“I think it shows respect for our program and our players. We’re not hiding from that and we don’t think that as a negative. As long as we don’t get caught up in it and understand the only reason or way we’re going to win games this year is through sheer hard work and doing things the right way, and our team was one game away from the playoff in 2019. Had we won that Pac-12 Championship Game that year — we were in,” he said via 247 Sports.

“We’ve been knocking at the door. We’ve been talking about taking that next step — for our program it is trying to get into the CFP and breaking down that barrier.”

The Utah Utes have several returning stars coming back this season, including quarterback Cam Rising. And while they might be long shots for a championship run, there is some reason for Utes fans to be excited heading into the season.
