Last week, we finally received some good news in the Brittney Griner saga when it was reported that the WNBA star was finally going to be able to call her wife from her Russian detainment.
But unfortunately, that phone conversation still hasn’t happened. Today, Cherelle Watson (Griner’s wife) revealed that she was unable to get in contact with her spouse despite the original plan.
NEW: Brittney Griner’s wife tells @AP the WNBA star tried nearly a dozen times to call her on Saturday, their anniversary. But they never connected because no one picked up at the US embassy in Moscow, which was supposed to have patched the call through. https://t.co/mmp0MgpzrD

Now, Cherelle Watson is completely fed up with the US government and their handling of the whole Brittney Griner situation.
“I find it unacceptable and I have zero trust in our government right now. If I can’t trust you to catch a Saturday call outside of business hours, how can I trust you to actually be negotiating on my wife’s behalf to come home? Because that’s a much bigger ask than to catch a Saturday call.”
Brittney Griner has been in Russian custody since February 17. And while both the WNBA and NBA have been in contact with US officials in effort to bring her back to the states, it still hasn’t happened.
Soon enough, we’re going to start having to hold the government accountable for their role in Brittney Griner’s sketchy detainment.
