Saudi Arabia’s Tareg Hamedi KOs Opponent in Gold Medal Karate Match, Then Gets DQ’d For Being ‘Too Forceful’

Saudi Arabia’s Tared Hamedi knocked out Sajad Ganjzadeh of Iran in the men’s +75 KG Karate gold medal match.

Usually one would think that if you knocked out your opponent in a match then you must have won. Unfortunately for Hamedi, he was disqualified for being ‘too forceful’ on his opponent which lead to the KO.

Hamedi looked dominant in the early going of the fight scoring a three-point ‘ippon’ just 9 seconds in and then he was leading 4-1 when the knockout occurred.

Ganjzadeh was stretchered off by officials. A few minutes later officials announced that Hamedi had been disqualified for being ‘too forceful’. Ganjzadeh was brought back for the award ceremony where both fighters looked no doubt disappointed.
