Gus Malzahn Has Championship Aspirations For UCF

Gus Malzahn wasn’t jobless for very long.

The former Auburn football coach was announced as the new head coach at UCF today.

Malzahn had his introductory press conference on Monday, and even got “knighted” by the team’s mascot.

While many would look at this job as a chance for Gus Malzahn to showcase his skills before leaving for another top-tier job, he doesn’t see it quite that way. Malzahn wants to win at UCF, and he wants to win big. He’s setting his bar pretty high.

“I don’t want a job that doesn’t have expectations to win a championship,” Malzahn said during his press conference.

Despite getting fired, Gus Malzahn was far from a disaster during his tenure at Auburn. It was just time for a change. Auburn was stuck in mediocrity, and Malzahn probably needed a new challenge as well. He’ll have that at UCF.

In his six years at Auburn, Malzahn went 53-27. He couldn’t consistently compete with the Alabama’s of the conference, which ended up being his downfall. I think Gus Malzahn is a damn good football coach, though, and I’ll be rooting for him at UCF.

I’m not sure about winning a championship any time soon, but Gus Malzahn will likely win a lot of games at UCF.
