Just before the winter transfer window slammed shut yesterday evening, Liverpool got over the line two defensive reinforcements.

Jürgen Klopp has confirmed Joel Matip is set to miss the remainder of the 2020/21 season due to an ankle ligament injury.

Ben arrives from Preston North End for a fee believed to be in the region of £2 million, while Kabak is joining on loan from Schalke 04, with an £18m option to buy at the end of the season.

While I think this is shrewd move from Jürgen Klopp and his group, will they come good in Merseyside?

They are by no way replacements for the crocked defenders Liverpool are missing but the fans can now hope for some measure of improvement in the rear.
