Yadier Molina’s Brother Calls Out The Cardinals Organization

At 38-years-old, Yadier Molina is a free agent for the first time in his career. The longtime catcher and (likely) future hall-of-famer has spoken out about his desire to stay in St. Louis, where he has spent his entire 17-year career.

Molina is a Cardinal legend, a guy that will have his number retired in St. Louis one day. The fans love him, everybody he’s ever played with loves him. So why won’t the Cardinals just pay him to spend the rest of his career in St. Louis? Yadi’s brother and former MLB player, Bengie Molina, might have the answer to that question.

Bengie spoke about Yadier’s contract situation earlier today.

“He wants to win, but he also wants to be appreciated,” Bengie Molina said in an interview on ESPN radio, according to Robert Murray of Fansided.

“He’s finding out how valuable – that’s a big, big word – how valuable he could be for another team,” said Bengie, who was a 13-year veteran behind the dish before retiring in 2010. “When you are talking about a 38-year-old and they have six-to-seven teams after them, that tells you how valuable he is.

“The bad thing for the Cardinals is he is finding out how valuable he is to other teams.”

Bengie might have a point here. Molina has been tied to several teams, if the Cardinals don’t lock him up. The Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers all have reported interest in the aging backstop.

If the Cardinals don’t act quick, they might lose their franchise cornerstone. God, that would be insanely weird to see Yadier Molina in anything but a Cardinals uniform.
