Watch Mookie Betts Crush Three Home Runs Tonight… So Far

Well the Los Angeles Dodgers are sure getting their money’s worth in their trade for former AL MVP Mookie Betts. Just a few weeks ago the team and their fans were worried they would never see the superstar outfielder play in Dodger Blue at all, now he’s putting up all-world performances on a regular basis. Coming into action on Thursday Mookie had a solid .279/.338/.544 slash with four home runs, 10 runs, 10 RBIs, a .265 ISO and a WRC+ 43% above league average. Then the Dodgers offense decided to go bananas Thursday night in their game against the Padres.

The Dodgers are currently ahead 11-2 in the sixth on the back of six home runs, three of which came in the first two innings. The Padres didn’t exactly have a slouch on the mound either, but Mookie Betts saw up and coming ace Chris Paddack take the hill and said hitting home runs against this kid is as easy as

One…

Two…

Three…

The MLB record for home runs by a single player in one game is four, which has been done numerous times. A couple of those have reportedly come close to five, with Joe Adcock‘s would-be fifth hitting the top of the wall for a double in what is widely regarded as the closest.

Mookie Betts could have a chance at five if he sees another two plate appearances in this one. The three he has tonight has already tied a different MLB record, with this performance Mookie Betts joins Sammy Sosa and Johnny Mize with six three-homer games in their careers. At just 27, it seems like there’s a chance we see Betts take that odd crown for his own before he’s done. We’ll see if the Dodgers let him take a shot at the single-game record in a blowout or if he comes out early out of an overabundance of caution.
