Roger Goodell Weighs In On Chicago Bears Potential Move To The Suburbs

It’s a good thing that the Chicago Bears drafted Justin Fields. Because otherwise, this offseason would be a complete mess.

After some speculation, the Bears’ ownership has bought a horse-racing park in the suburbs. And they have left the door wide open for a potential move to the arena in Arlington Heights–a suburb about 30 miles from their current location.

Despite Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot calling the threat to leave for Arlington nothing but a ‘negotiating tactic’, the site has now been approved to be turned into a football field.

Amid all the noise about the potential for the Chicago Bears’ relocation, commissioner Roger Goodell is downplaying the whole situation. Goodell pointed to the fact that the Bears have a long lease with Soldier Field, and he doesn’t expect the Arlington threat to really manifest into anything for a while.

It really feel like the Chicago Bears ownership group is trying to ruffle some feathers in Chicago in order to get some upgrades to their current field.

Chicago is probably in need of a better stadium, but no one wants to see the team move out of the city altogether.

For now, there is a long time for Chicago to find a way to keep the Bears in the city. However, if Lightfoot and the rest of city council don’t agree to the Bears’ terms, they’re giving themselves a backup plan in Arlington Heights.
