Peyton Manning Highlights What He Misses Most From His Playing Days

Peyton Manning has done well in his retired life since he walked away from football five seasons ago. However, there are plenty of things that the veteran quarterback misses about playing the game. Atop that list is the camaraderie. Manning reflected on his illustrious career on “Good Morning America” earlier this week. Manning said he thinks about the time he spent with his teammates more than the wins. It’s quite the humble opinion for a two time Super Bowl champion, but now necessarily a surprise coming from Peyton Manning.

Peyton Manning recounted some of his favorite times he spent with his teammates off the field.

“There’s the old saying, enjoy the journey not the destination,” Manning said. “And when I think back on my memories during my 18 years of playing, I think about those plane rides with my teammates, I think about hanging around the locker room, laughing with each other, I think about taking the offensive linemen out to eat on Thursday nights, keeping them well-fed, maybe having a couple of cold beverages and that was well worth it.”

Despite all of his success on the field, he called those memories some of the greatest takeaways from his playing career. Peyton Manning says he doesn’t second guess retiring as a Super Bowl champion, but he does miss the time in the locker room with his teammates.

“I have no regrets. I left it all out there on the field,” Manning said. “But I do miss my teammates.”

Peyton Manning definitely made the right decision of riding off into the sunset as Super Bowl Champion. There isn’t much of a higher high in the game of football than that. It is hard to believe that the great Peyton Manning has already been retired for five seasons. Unfortunately, I can’t imagine the sheriff playing in today’s league. He retired at the time that was right for him and it was a fitting time in his career.

Above all the many accolades that Manning has to show for, more than anything he misses his teammates. It’s no secret how much Peyton Manning loved and appreciated the game of football. But it’s nice to hear how valuable his teammates were to him.
