Never Forget 9/11 Nineteen Years Ago When The World Stopped Turning

On September 11, 2001, the world stopped turning for what felt like an eternity. When that plane crashed into the tower in New York City America was in absolute shock, and many lost their lives. On that day 400 first responders gave their lives. That includes 23 New York City police offices, 37 Port Authority workers, and 343 New York City firefighters. Never forget.

As a Cubs fan, there is one specific moment I will never forget.

I was in first grade at Central School in Lincoln, Illinois. Miles away from New York City. Still, we all felt the boom. We gathered around the flag in the courtyard for a moment of silence. That was just our school, but many people passing by stopped and reflected upon what had just happened. I will never forget watching the news on those big 50 lb box television sets. Man, it feels like yesterday. Even on COVID time, which feels like it has been an eternity.

Never forget. Never forget how many people lost their lives. How many mothers and fathers had to hear the news that their child would no longer be able to walk this earth. Never forget how many people were on that plane that didn’t survive. And all the people that jumped out of the building in an attempt to spare their lives. This is still a dark day even nineteen years later. But never forget how America united in response to the horrific act of terrorism.

Life is a gift, my friends. Never forget that. Every day that you wake up is a day that many others didn’t get to see. Remember that. Life is not just a gift, but it is also a blessing. If you are reading this, you are blessed more than you know. Never forget that.
