Marc-Andre Fleury Reportedly Contemplating Retirement After Being Traded To The Blackhawks

The hockey world was shocked on Tuesday afternoon when it was announced that veteran goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was being traded from Vegas to Chicago.

While Marc-Andre Fleury would be a fine pickup for a Blackhawks team hoping to turn the corner on their rebuild, he might not even show up to Chicago.

According to multiple different reports, Fleury wanted to stay in Vegas, and might even retire instead of playing for any other team.

One thing to watch here: there were rumblings Marc-Andre Fleury might choose to retire if traded from Vegas — for family reasons. Not certain how it will all play out.

Perhaps the Marc-Andre Fleury move might be confusing for some Blackhawks fans who were hoping they would fill in needs in other areas of their roster, but the low-risk nature of the move might’ve swayed them to pull the trigger.

The Blackhawks gave up AHL prospect 23-year old center Mikael Hakkarainen in the deal, who isn’t even much of a big prospect in their system.

The Marc-Andre Fleury move was basically for Vegas to dump some salary, while Chicago is going to land a guy who won the Vezina Trophy last season.

Of course, that’s contingent upon Fleury deciding to continue his NHL career.
