Luka Doncic Calls Out Mavs After Fourth Straight Loss

Luka Doncic has had enough of losing.

The Slovenian superstar has been an incredible success story for the Dallas Mavericks since he was drafted third overall in the 2018 Draft. Doncic has often been looked at as the next big star in the NBA. However, things haven’t exactly gone to plan to start the season.

Doncic hasn’t taken that next step, and the Mavericks don’t look like a team with a real shot to compete in the packed Western Conference. After losing to the Utah Jazz, Doncic aired his frustration with his teams’ compete level.

“I would say right now it’s looking like we don’t care, honestly, if we win games or not,” Doncic said to ESPN. “We just [need] more energy, more effort, dive for every ball, box out, everything. There’s a lot of things we could improve, and I know we will. I know we will, and that’s all that matters.”

Luka Doncic is averaging 27.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 9.6 assists per game, but he wants more out of himself. He wants more out of his team.

“I never felt like this,” he said. “We’ve got to do something, because this is not looking good. We’ve got to step up and just talk to each other and play way better than this. It’s mostly effort.”

It’s nice to see the 21-year old Luka Doncic stepping up into a leadership role. We’ll see how his team responds. They’re set to take on the Phoenix Suns tonight.
