LSU-Alabama Game In Jeopardy After Players Reportedly Attended A Halloween Party And Now Have COVID

College football was always going to be tough this year. We were bound to have COVID outbreaks and cancellations, but the NCAA proceeded with the season anyway. Now, here we are. LSU is being told that they might not have enough players for their game against Alabama this weekend due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

“We are dealing with COVID and contact tracing I can’t go into detail. It’s a very fluid situation,” LSU head Coach Ed Orgeron said, according to 247 Sports. “We do have some players who have COVID and have some players in quarantine.”

“It started last week,” Orgeron said. “Probably Tuesday or Wednesday, I was told of some guys who had COVID. And the numbers are high because of the quarantine. That’s when you get into the low (scholarship) numbers.”

The outbreak occurred after Halloween, which is said to have played a role in the whole thing. According to Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger, contract tracing put a number of LSU players at a Halloween party.

#LSU’s outbreak stems from a party around Halloween and, because of contact tracing, has put the Tigers dangerously close to the SEC’s 53-man threshold to play, sources tell @SINow.

It remains unknown who attended this party, or if it even existed. However, if the accusation is true, it looks like there was some negligence in play. What did we expect, these are college kids, we had to know that they were going to act recklessly even if they’re told not to.

If this game does get canceled, it won’t be the only SEC game to be postponed this week. After a COVID-19 outbreak among Mississippi State players, their game against Auburn has also been called off.
