Lincoln Riley Called A Hypocrite After Complaining About Transfer Quarterback’s Eligibility

Perhaps nobody has reaped the benefits of quarterbacks entering the transfer portal more than Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley. Riley landed Baker Mayfield and Jalen Hurts via the transfer, and they didn’t have to sit out at all.

Now that it’s going the opposite way on Riley, he’s changing his mind on the matter.

After last season, Oklahoma quarterback Chandler Morris announced he was transferring to TCU. Lincoln Riley shared his belief that he doesn’t think Morris should be immediately eligible.

Lincoln Riley says his opposition to Chandler Morris' immediate eligibility at TCU is about a core belief that you shouldn't be able to transfer intraconference without any kind of penalty. He said it's bad for the game.

I know, Lincoln Riley was not the coach when Baker Mayfield transferred from Texas Tech and was granted immediate eligibility, but that hasn’t stopped fans from calling out the Oklahoma coach for wanting to have it both ways.

"Unless the QB is transferring into my program, QB's should not be allowed to transfer within the conference. It makes it harder for me to win."

While many seem to think the optics aren’t good for Lincoln Riley here, I see where he’s coming from. Letting transfers move around in-conference without a penalty sets a pretty strange precedent for college football.

With the number of transfer players seemingly increasing every year, I wonder if the NCAA will look to implement some new transfer rules. Right now it does seem like a bit of a free-for-all.

It’ll be interesting to see Lincoln Riley and the Sooners play TCU in the coming years.
