Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy Speaks On Likelihood Of Justin Fields Starting Over Andy Dalton Week One

Since the Chicago Bears traded up in the NFL Draft to select Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, their fan base has been in a much better state-of-mind than when they signed Andy Dalton to take over for Mitchell Trubisky as QB1.

While the Bears may have gotten their quarterback of the future with Justin Fields, it still looks like they’re going to be trotting Andy Dalton out there. At least to start the season.

When speaking on Chris Collinworth’s podcast, Bears head coach Matt Nagy revealed that there was ‘no possible scenario’ that Justin Fields starts over Andy Dalton to begin the season.

“Andy Dalton is our starter,” Nagy said. Justin is our number 2 and we are going to stick with this plan. You just got to trust the plan.”

The full quote gives a little more clarity on how the Bears view Justin Fields and Andy Dalton.

The Chicago Bears are trying everything possible to make sure Justin Fields is ready before they start him over Andy Dalton. Whether that’s Week One, Week Five, or next season, is anyone’s best guess at this point.

I happen to think that if Justin Fields continues to impress Matt Nagy during practice, and in preseason, that he’ll be starting over Andy Dalton in no time.
