If you follow the MLB in the slightest, you probably know that longtime Reds star Joey Votto is pretty much always a good soundbite. And after he notched his 2,000th career hit on Monday night, Votto was up to his usual tricks.
Joey Votto was asked about what he had planned for the 2000th hit ball, and he shared an all-time story about giving his late dog his first career hit to gnaw on.

Joey Votto would go on to say that if his dog were still alive, he’d probably give the 2000th hit ball to him, as well.
“If I’m honest with you, if he was still alive, I’d probably give him the 2,000th ball to chew up,” Votto admitted.

With his milestone hit on Monday night, Joey Votto now becomes the fifth player in Cincinnati Reds history to reach 2000th career hits.
While it doesn’t seem like Votto is too worried about what happens to the keepsakes he receives from his milestone moments, he’ll likely have a whole shrine of stuff hanging in Cooperstown some day.
For now, though, Joey Votto remains one of the best hitters in all of baseball.
