According to the Lincoln Journal Star, World Series Champion Joba Chamberlain, left a house full of stuff that is set to be auctioned over the weekend. It’s being called an “abandoned property” auction, and everything from jerseys, game worn hats, baseball cards, to kitchen items must go.

This is honestly a really depressing story. Joba Chamberlain, once the pride of Nebraska baseball, who went on to win a World Series with the Yankees and had stints with the Tigers, Royals and Indians, now seems to have fallen on hard times. It sounds like his house was repossessed by the bank and he was forced to leave in February. I’m just not sure why he would leave all of his belongings in the house, especially such prized possessions from his College World Series run and even from his days as a Yankee.
He opened a bar in Lincoln a few years ago which has since closed, and now seeing this, things do not look good. It’s odd to look back on him being such a local celebrity when he played for the Yankees and now see this news. Hoping he found somewhere safe to go during the pandemic and is getting help if he needs it.
