The Harlem Globetrotters Are Ready To Take Their Show To The NBA

After years of thrilling fans with their traveling act of basketball trick shots and slam dunks, the Harlem Globetrotters are ready to get serious.

Despite already building their brand as their own kind of show, the Globetrotters want to be an actual NBA team.

“Based on what we’ve already proven, we can field a team of talent on par with the pros of today, and we want the chance to do that,” wrote the Globetrotters in a letter to Adam Silver and the NBA. “As a world renowned and legendary professional basketball team, we petition Commissioner Adam Silver, the NBA governors and the powers that be to grant The Original Harlem Globetrotters an NBA franchise. Not now, but right now!”

The Harlem Globetrotters actually have a point here. They were founded in 1926– well before the NBA was founded. They were instrumental in making  basketball what it is today, and definitely have their place in history.

Even some NBA players (most notably Wilt Chamberlain) played for the Harlem Globetrotters before they made their leap to the NBA.

Is the NBA ready to get weird and give the Globetrotters their very own team in the league? I’m all for it.
