Former NFL GM Sheds Light On ‘Suicidal’ Deshaun Watson Trade

After a long offseason resulted in Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson being sued by over 20 massage therapists who claim the star quarterback sexually assaulted them, he has showed up to Training Camp.

This comes after the quarterback demanded to be traded by the Houston Texans prior to the legal issues.

Despite everything going on, Deshaun Watson still wants to be traded from the Texans. And the team has even added two new quarterbacks (Davis Mills and Tyrod Taylor) to seemingly prepare for a future without Watson.

It would appear to be common sense that Watson will not be traded while he deals with his lawsuits. After all, who would want to take on that burden? But nevertheless, Houston is still in talks with a few teams around the league who have been inquiring about the QB.

According to reports, Houston is still asking for a massive haul for Deshaun Watson.

Obviously Deshaun Watson’s talent would turn a few teams around the league into real contenders. But Randy Mueller, the former GM of the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins, believes that the move would be ‘suicidal’ at this moment.

“I don’t know that they’re going to be able to vet it completely,” Mueller told NJ. com. “I don’t know that the league is going to come clean with their investigation, and I think they’ve purposely put the brakes on it, thinking that it would take its legal course first. There’s just a lot of open-ended questions that I don’t think are vettable at this point.”

Deshaun Watson will not be deposed until February 2022. And if he is found to be guilty, he’d most definitely have to miss even more time after that.

So Mueller is right, there is just way too much unknown surrounding Watson for a team to seriously consider trading away their future for his services.

With that being said, maybe there is a team out there willing to take on the massive risk of trading for Deshaun Watson. If it works out, you could be getting a true franchise quarterback at a decent discount.

Time will tell.
