Colorado Golfer Gets Mangled By An Elk On The 17th Hole Of The Course

Lions and tigers and elks, oh my! A Colorado golfer nearly lost his life on the 17th hole after an elk rammed the man’s cart. The elk gored the man straight through his back with its antlers. Megan Bornhoft says her husband, Zak, was finishing up a round of golf with his buds when the elk struck him and his cart. Megan reported that the elk charged Zak’s golf cart and speared him in the right side of his lower back.

Megan also reported that her husband was rushed to the hospital.  After doctors checked him out, they found some pretty horrific injuries (TMZ). Check out her interview with CBS Channel 4 regarding her husband’s accident with the elk.

Megan claims that her husband, despite a significant amount of pain, is expected to make a full recovery. However, there are some complications. Because of the dirt and bacteria on the elk’s horns, Megan says that doctors were deeply concerned about the possibility of infection.

“The urologist thinks the kidney will be able to repair itself!” Megan said, before adding, “He continues to be in a tremendous amount of pain, but is handling it in true Zak fashion…dry humor!!”

It would be hard to be humorous about an elk nearly taking your life while trying to enjoy a round of golf. But according to Megan, that’s just the way her husband Zac is. Zac says that he is in a little bit of a rough spot, but “I’m going to get through it”.  As for the golf course, it issued a statement Monday warning golfers to avoid elk on the course at all costs.
