Colin Kaepernick Has Found An Actor To Play Him In His Upcoming Netflix Series

Colin Kaepernick’s new Netflix series Collin in Black & White has found its lead. According to Complex, Jaden Michael will play a young Colin Kaepernick. Michael will be asked to play Kaep throughout his High School days.

Some of Jaden Michael’s other big roles have included The Get Down and Wonderstruck.

The sic part miniseries is set to focus on Kaepernicks’s early year, and take the viewer through the lens of a young black kid growing up with an adoptive white family. You’ll see a mix of football and activism, both of which being essential to making Colin Kaepernick who he is today.

Kaepernick teamed with director Ava DuVernay to make the miniseries.

“With his act of protest, Colin Kaepernick ignited a national conversation about race and justice with far-reaching consequences for football, culture and for him, personally,” DuVernay said back in June when the scripted series was first announced. “Colin’s story has much to say about identity, sports and the enduring spirit of protest and resilience. I couldn’t be happier than to tell this story with the team at Netflix.”

For Kaepernick, this has been a long time coming. It will give him the opportunity to tell his story, and add perspective to what it’s like being black in America.

“Too often we see race and Black stories portrayed through a white lens,” Kaepernick said over the summer. “We seek to give new perspective to the differing realities that Black people face. We explore the racial conflicts I faced as an adopted Black man in a white community, during my high school years. It’s an honor to bring these stories to life in collaboration with Ava for the world to see.”

I’m looking forward to seeing this project come into fruition. The release date isn’t out yet, but look for Netflix to drop the miniseries sometime in the near future.
