Chris Collinsworth Made An Interesting Baker Mayfield Comparison On SNF

The Cleveland Browns secured their 10th win of the season with a dominant win over the Giants on Sunday Night. Baker Mayfield is having a pretty stellar season and looked great against the Giants, passing for 297yds and two touchdowns. Having said that, Chris Collinsworth may have gone a little overboard with his praise for Mayfield on Sunday night. Collinsworth was called out on social media for bringing up Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway when discussing Mayfield’s throwing style.

Sideaction’s Latest:

John Elway is perhaps the most talented passer in the history of the NFL. Baker Mayfield has been good this season, but NFL fans were not digging the comparison. Mayfield is clearly no John Elway, however, the comparison is high praise and maybe more interesting than you might think. CBS Sports tweeted out a graphic comparing Baker Mayfield and John Elway through their first 43 career games.

Surprisingly, Baker Mayfield topped John Elway in several metrics used to rank a quarterback’s play. The game was much different when Elway played, but the comparison was much more interesting than I anticipated. Based on the eye test, Baker Mayfield may never be as great as the hall of famer John Elway, but he deserves some respect for the season he is having. Maybe Chris Collinsworth was actually on to something.
